EDUCATION IN WALES Three months later, on June 16th, 1942, he added, this time in the House of Commons:
"I regard as obscurantist the attitude of the Commission of Inquiry exactly 100 years ago which went to Wales and took the view that to keep alive a knowledge of this beautiful tongue was tantamount to crippling Welsh initiative and penalising Welsh endeavour. I wish now, a hundred years later, to make amends for that attitude."
Welshmen rejoiced at his words, for they knew that the wheel had turned full circle.
