everywhere, we find that rest is the beauty of labour, as meditation is the cream of study, which is but the "dreaming awake" of labour in the shady repose of Rest. And as mental labour requires rest so does physical. We mean rest as it is implied in the contrast between. meditation and sleep. And Mabon's Day is the colliers rest; though since established it has made an expanding growth in many directions, carrying with it its privileges to other classes of men. We are very sorry though to admit that often it is not used to the best advantage. But after all it opens the door before the heroes of the death—haunted paths underground to the life—giving grandeur of thought. We are glad to see so many Eisteddfodau, &c., held on this day, which derive the highest benefit from it. It was established to keep down the crushing supply of coal. It is therefore a reviving power and throws throbbing life to the welfare of mankind.
