"No voice has so thrilled the heart of Wales as this, and now that he has passed into silence it thrills yet more exquisitely. He is in permanent possession of his place in Welsh literature, not only or chiefly for what he has done, but for the promise of doing which has in it such eternal hope,—such unfading strengen. When Wales rests a little in the midst of its religious revival it will find here the song that was more a song of the first dawn than the singer knew. Maturer poetry there has been produced in Wales during the last ten years, but nothing that has in it more of the very soul of poetry. We are sure all the time that we are in the garden of the muses."
