MAJOR JOHN EDWIN BAYLISS, B.Sc.
Major Bayliss was the son of the late Mr. John F. Bayliss, Deputy Town Clerk of Rhyl, and was formerly a student at Bangor University. College, where he had taken his degree in Science with first class honours, and had also been Dean Edwards' Prizeman. On the outbreak of war he received a commission in the Royal Field Artillery, and went with the Guards Division to France. In 1916 he was promoted Captain. He was mentioned in dispatches, won the Military Cross, July, 1917, and was promoted Major. He was one of the many brilliant careers cut short by the war, and the gallant officer will be much missed in many circles. He was buried in Dozinghem Cemetery, September 29, 1917.
