
PRIVATE WILLIAM SAMUEL HUGHES.
Private William Samuel Hughes was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Hughes 5 Orme Terrace, Euston Road, Bangor. He joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers September 9, 1914, and went through different courses of training, eventually becoming a stretcher bearer, and as such he left on July 13, 1915, for the Dar danelles (Sulva Bay landing), disembarking on August 8, and acting as stretcher-bearer throughout the campaign. Leaving there on the night of December 13-14, 1915, thence landing in Egypt, here he did duty in field dressing as Doctor's orderly, when the Battalion became subject to sceptic poisoning. He was taken seriously ill, while performing these duties at Wade, and entered hospital. On June 8th, he landed in England, and was taken to Manchester West Didsbury Military Hospital, at which place he succumbed to Dysentry on July 17, and was buried at Glanadda Cemetery, Bangor, July 22, 1916, at the age of 29 years.
