I think the only advice I can give you re judging your own writings, is:—produce them in the first instance as quickly as you may, at 'fever heat' if you like and can; then lay them by for as long a time as will enable you to return to them in a critical mood—in 'cold blood,' when you will probably find some, or some portions will want burning, others amending or remodelling, and perhaps few others remain as they are a 'joy for ever.'
