The reader will remember that his Chairing at Llandudno happened while R. Ddu was a student at Bala College. We already mentioned that Llew Llwyfo and other friends, whom R. Ddu consulted about entering College, tried to persuade him not to go, and stated their reasons. These reasons, though weak, deserve some comment because they came from intelligent persons, and explain a prevalent opinion in Wales at that time as to the value of college education. Let us repeat them. The first reason—That R. Ddu was old enough to require any education he desired without the aid of college professors—contradicts the experience of ages along all the lines of instruction. The second reason—That he would never be a popular preacher because he was
