was honorable enough to state the facts to the friends at Mynydd Islwyn. His letter was so pathetic! It made one think of Moses viewing the promised land he had toiled so hard and so long to reach, yet was not allowed to enter.

The tribes had Moses led;
With manna they were fed
By heavenly hand;
The forty years spent!
And though on Canaan bent,
To Nebo he was sent
To view the land.

So our poet did pray,
And labor every day,
With all his might;
When sin was rude and rife,
He fully equipped his life
To enter on the strife
For God and right.

But when the goal was nigh,
And his ambition high
To reach the mark,
His day turned unto night,
He left his prospects bright,
And sailed for realms of light
Within the ark.
