His Testimonial and Ordination.
ON March 1, 1869, the good people of Minnesota presented him with a testimonial, as a tribute of respect to his splendid talents and blameless character, and as an expression of sympathy with him in his affliction. At a large public meeting, held at Mankato, amid speeches and songs and cheers, Mrs. Bowen presented the poet with a purse of gold; for which he thanked the audience in a very eloquent and pathetic speech, and read the following englynion he had composed for the occasion:—
