Dr. Weaver told me, before I left Black River Falls, that I ought Dot to think of spending the winter in Minnesota or Wisconsin—that the climate was too cold for me in my weak state, and that I ought by all means to go to one of the Southern States. I have just received a letter from my friend, Mr. J. Meredith Davies, containing a pressing invitation for me to spend the winter with him at St. Louis, as the climate there is much milder. Mr. D. is willing to come after me himself; and I could go there much easier than I could go to Rosendale, as I would only have to step into the boat at La Crosse, and out of it at St. Louis. I feel strongly inclined to accept the invitation; but I should like to have a word from you on the subject. With kindest love to you both, and to all at home.

 I am, dear parents,
 Your affectionate son,
 R. P. Edwards.

P.S.—The good people of Bangor intend making me a donation next week."

To live is to do what must be done,
To work and be true, for work is soon done;
'Tis living for others, to lighten their load,
'Tis helping your brothers, and trusting in God."
