I guro, daeth llaw trugaredd—at ddôr
Risiart Ddu o Wynedd;
Am hyny'r sant, o bant bedd,
Waredir i anrhydedd.
Llonydd yw'r bardd a'r llenor—a dyn
Duw O dan dalp o farmor;
Bydd gwae dwfn i'r bedd gau dor
A thoi dros y fath drysor.

On the south face of the monument is the inscription for the parents; and on the eastern face that of the eldest brother whom R. Ddu loved, John Edwards (Mafoniog); and on the north side, Louisa.
The writer, on a visit to the United States in 1880, preached for a Sunday at Soar, Rosendale; enjoyed the hospitality of Risiart Ddu's relatives; and had the sad pleasure of shedding tears on his grave. The writer had not seen him for fourteen years, and he had been for ten years in his grave. The following lines of Cawrdaf came forcibly to his mind—
"Awenawg ŵr o Wynedd—o hiraeth
A yrwyd i'r llygredd,
I arall dir i orwedd—
Dyma fan fechan ei fedd!
Fe allai deuai ar daith,
Damwain, ryw hen gydymaith
I ymdeithio heibio i hon
Ag wylo ar ei galon;
Darllenai'r pedair llinell
Yn iaith fad ei burwlad bell;
Minau a'm bron yn llonydd—
Fy Nuw fry ai felly fydd!"
