THE aim of the Editor of this work is to produce a complete book of general reference on all matters of chief interest connected with the Principality in the departments of History, Topography, and Biography.

HISTORY.—It will contain concise and interesting articles on all the prominent events in the Civil and Military, Religious and Social History of the Country; and interspersed through these, or under independent headings, full and ample notices of Battles, Treaties, Antiquities, Manners and Customs, Rights and Privileges, Public Institutions, Dignities, Civil and Ecclesiastical—in short, all important matters which go to form the sum of what is usually called HISTORY.

TOPOGRAPHY.—The Counties, Cities, Boroughs, Corporate and Market Towns, Parishes, Chapelries, and Townships, will each be described separately ; and along with them will be given notices of the Ancient Remains, which form marked features in many parts of the country, and around which cluster associations of great local and general interest, such as Druidical Stones, Barrows, Forts, Castles, Camps, Abbeys, Mansions, &c.

BIOGRAPHY—Wales is rich in Worthies who have adorned her annals by their eminence on the Field and in the Cabine; in the Church and in
