gwasanaeth pregethu.[1] Yr oedd cyflwr Cernyw yn waeth fyth.[2] Gresynus i'r eithaf oedd cyflwr Cymru. Mewn adroddiad swyddogol o eiddo Esgob Rowland Meyrick cawn nad oedd yn holl Esgobaeth Bangor ond dau glerigwr a arferent bregethu.[3]

  1. Danfonwyd deiseb o Lundain i'r Senedd yn dweyd:-"That half of their churches were unsupplied with preaching ministers; in the other half, partly by reason of non-residents, partly through the mean qualifications of others, there is scarce a tenth man who makes conscience to wait upon his charge, whereby the Lord's Sabbath is often-times wholly neglected, for the most part miserably mangled, and darkness coming in like an armed man."
  2. Danfonwyd deiseb i'r Senedd o Cernyw yn nyddiau Elizabeth, yn yr hon y dywedid—
"We are 90,000 souls ready to perish for want of the word of God, and though we have 160 churches, to the maintenance of which there is yearly allowed £9200, the greatest part of them are supplied by men who are guilty of the grossest sins, fornicators, adulterers, felons bearing the marks in their hands of the said offences; drunkards, gamesters on the Sabbath Day; many who preach but once a quarter. We have some ministers who labor faithfully in the Lord's husbandry, but these men are not suffered to attend their callings. . . . Nor is it safe for us to go to hear them, for though our own fountains are dried up, yet if we seek the waters of life elsewhere we are cited into the spiritual courts. . . . Therefore from far we come beseeching this honourable house to dispossess these dumb dogs and appoint them faithful ministers who might preach the word without molestation. from any Ecclesiastical Commissioners."
  3. Heblaw y ddau a arferent bregethu yr oedd yn yr Esgobaeth amryw a fedrent bregethu. Wele gopi cyflawn o'r rhan yma o'r adroddiad dyddorol hwn, modd y gwelir ym mha ardaloedd y pryd hwnnw y gallai'r offeiriad bregethu:—
