MRS . EDMUNDS.

For as it stained the ground,
The cross they clustered round,

And fain would have upheld his sinking head .
Ah ! that atoning blood,
It is the cleansing flood,
That purges guiltof foulest dye away ;
Lord , my polluted soul
Requires the mighty whole,

That I may fearless stand in that dread day.
TO MY BROTHER ON HIS BIRTHDAY.
" Remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee . "

Remember 'tis thy God's command
On this thy natal day;

Forget not the Almighty hand
That led thee all the way .

Remember ' tis thy Saviour's voice,
Though far from home you stray ;
Still in his lovely name rejoice,
He led thee all the way.

This world is but a wilderness,
We are but pilgrims here ;
The way by which we have to pass,
At times, is dark and drear.
But if Jehovah be our Guide
If God be but our stay ;

Still will we praise his name thus tried,
Who led us all the way .

And when on Canaan's happy shore
We meet, in endless day,

We'll join to praise Him evermore,
Who led us all the way .

Silent and irresistible and pure ;
