MRS. EDMUNDS.
As golden fringes on the pall of night;
The stars faint twinkle through the darkened sky,
Erratic in their circle-order all:
But now, alas! I cannot look on high,
For sorrow on my eyelids presseth hard.
The fields may blush with roses-not for me;
For other eyes the flow'rets deck the scene;
The hills may echo with the feathered throng,
And I in secret weep my hapless lot:
The birds may carol, or their songs may cease-
Nature in smiles be deoked, or else in gloom-
The stars may twinkle or withhold their light-
The sun may shine, or be in darkness veiled-
I still remain the same.
No rey can dissipate my cloud of woe!
Oh! who can cure my deep, my secret wound?
What friend can hear the tale I dare not tell?
No mortal can, for vain is mortal aid.
But there is One who sees and knows my grief,
Yes, He can heal, and freely heal my smart:
To Him I flee, and prostrate at his feet,
Importune Him for pardon through his blood.
Wedi dianc o un o'r pangfeydd hyn, y mae yn
ysgrifenu y llinellau a ganlyn:
I am free! I am free! once more, I am free,
The chain has been broken that fettered me;
My spirit resumes its wonted tone,
The spell it is over, the vision gone,-
Perchance again, I may feel the same, &c.
Ond nid isel oedd agwedd naturiol ei meddwl hi,
eithr bywiog, siriol, llawn o egni, a pharod i ym-
ddyddan am bob peth buddiol; ond teimlai wrth-
wynebiad mawr chwedlau gwneuthur, a phob
math o ymyraeth & materion rhai ereill. Yn hyn
yn sicr yr oedd yn deilwng o efelychiad.
Y mae yn amlwg na chymerodd ond ychydig o
byfrydwch mewn cyfansoddi yn y Gymraeg, a llai
fyth mewn mesurau caethion; ond medrai ddyn-
wared unrhyw beth, a hyny gydag ychydig o
drafferth. Čawn enghraifft o hyn yn y cyfarchiad
