[golygu] Angr's request for adminship

Since I am the only active user here at the moment, I would like to have admin rights so that I can do things like translate the interface into Welsh (i.e. copy it from cy-Wikipedia over here), delete unneeded pages, and other general clean-up. Although my passive reading knowledge of Welsh is okay, my active ability to write and speak it is very limited, which is why I chose to be active here (where all I have to do is copy texts already written in Welsh) rather than at cy-Wikipedia (where I would be expected to write original contributions in Welsh). I'm already an admin at en-Wikipedia and at Commons. If you feel you can support my request to have admin rights here, or if you want to oppose my request, please do so on this page. Diolch yn fawr! [golygu] Wikisource — The Free Library

[golygu] Betawiki: better support for your language in MediaWiki

Dear community. I am writing to you to promote a special wiki called Betawiki. This wiki facilitates the localisation (l10n) of the MediaWiki interface. You may have changed many messages here on this wiki to use your language, but if you would log in to for example the English language Wiktionary, you would not be able to use the interface as well translated as here. Infact, of the 1793 messages in the core of MediaWiki, 1078 messages have been translated. Betawiki also supports the translation of messages of almost 80 extensions, with 984 messages.

If you wish to contribute to better support of your language in MediaWiki, as well as for many MediaWiki extensions, please visit Betawiki, create an account and request translator priviledges. You can see the current status of localisation of your language on meta and do not forget to get in touch with others that may already be working on your language on Betawiki.

If you have any further questions, please let me know on my talk page on Betawiki. We will try and assist you as much as possible, for example by importing all messages from a local wiki for you to start with, if you so desire.

You can also find us on the Freenode IRC network in the channel #mediawiki-i18n where we would be happy to help you get started.

Thank you very much for your attention and I do hope to see some of you on Betawiki soon! Cheers! Siebrand@Betawiki 09:20, 24 Medi 2007 (UTC)

[golygu] Rhestr Beirdd

Oes na ddalen sy'n cynnwys holl enwau'r beirdd sydd a'u gwaith ar Wikisource? Os oes fe fyddai'n dda rhoi dolen i'r dudalen o dudalen flaen Wikisourcs. Mae fforio hebddo yn amhosib bron! I'm asking for an index page of a list of poets on the Welsh Wikisource. A link to this List Of Poets from the Main Page would be great. Navigating without such a list is practically impossible! Llywelyn2000 08:33, 20 Gorffennaf 2008 (UTC)

Take a look at Categori:Barddoniaeth. I think all the poets we have are listed there. —Angr 15:15, 20 Gorffennaf 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but no link. I've added 'Recent poets' to enable a quick access.

I would also like to sub-categorise the poetry (barddoniaeth page) to strict meter and poems without strict meter; and then sub-sub divide to the different meters e.g. englynion. Llywelyn2000 09:36, 25 Awst 2008 (UTC)

[golygu] Wicipedia DU

Wikimedians in the United Kingdom are working to set up a chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation, which will aid and encourage people to collect, develop and effectively disseminate knowledge. A board of five members has been elected, and a company has now been set up. Membership applications are now invited, and will be processed as soon as we have a bank account. The organisation needs the support and involvement of people like you.

So far, most participants have been based on English-language projects, but we want to ensure that we work with and for Wikimedians in all languages. As this project is in an important language native to the UK, we are making contact with you.

We need to know what a new UK chapter can do to assist your project, and how we can best work together to make that happen. We are also looking for people who can translate short pieces of text, such as the first paragraph of this message, to help publicise the activities of the chapter.

Please do comment, make suggestions, and feel free to ask us any questions, whether here, on MetaWiki, or on the wikimedia-uk mailing list. Warofdreams 12:27, 1 Rhagfyr 2008 (UTC)

[golygu] WikiProject Translation

Announcing the creation of a new interlingual cooperative WikiProject- WikiProject Translation! The goal is inter-wiki collaboration with the aim of making source texts available in multiple languages. The project is very much in the formation phase, and would benefit from voices giving input. Please feel free to express any ideas, concerns, or questions at the project talk page. If you don't speak English, you have two options: Use Google Translate, or start your own WikiProject Translation here at Welsh Wikisource. (This is recommended in any case.) In the spirit of the project, please translate this message! --Eliyak 09:23, 10 Ionawr 2011 (UTC)

[golygu] Call for image filter referendum

The Wikimedia Foundation, at the direction of the Board of Trustees, will be holding a vote to determine whether members of the community support the creation and usage of an opt-in personal image filter, which would allow readers to voluntarily screen particular types of images strictly for their own account.

Further details and educational materials will be available shortly. The referendum is scheduled for 12-27 August, 2011, and will be conducted on servers hosted by a neutral third party. Referendum details, officials, voting requirements, and supporting materials will be posted at Meta:Image filter referendum shortly.

Sorry for delivering you a message in English. Please help translate the pages on the referendum on Meta and join the translators mailing list.

[golygu] Terms of Use update

I apologize that you are receiving this message in English. Please help translate it.

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is discussing changes to its Terms of Use. The discussion can be found at Talk:Terms of use. Everyone is invited to join in. Because the new version of Terms of use is not in final form, we are not able to present official translations of it. Volunteers are welcome to translate it, as German volunteers have done at m:Terms of use/de, but we ask that you note at the top that the translation is unofficial and may become outdated as the English version is changed. The translation request can be found at m:Translation requests/WMF/Terms of Use 2 -- Maggie Dennis, Community Liaison 00:38, 27 Hydref 2011 (UTC)

[golygu] Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Hello,

As I was creating oldwikisource:Universal Declaration of Human Rights, I noticed that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is not on the Wicitestun. If I’m right, the text is avalaible here : [1].

I don’t know how this wikisource works : is this text acceptable here ? Could someone import it ?

[golygu] Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

  • Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
  • New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
  • The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
  • Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
  • Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
  • Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
  • The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
  • More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
  • Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
  • Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
  • Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Note that this cluster does have SUL but it is not integrated with SUL in production, so you'll need to create another account. You should avoid using the same password as you use here. — Global message delivery 00:03, 15 Ionawr 2012 (UTC)

[golygu] Wsexport: an automatic export tool for Wikisource

Hello, and first sorry for this automatic delivery message.

An export tool for Wikisource books, Wsexport, is currently in active development. It is a tool for exporting Wikisource's texts in EPUB, ODT and other file formats. It was created for French Wikisource, but it's also available for the other Wikisource subdomains. It can be used directly from its page on Toolserver.org (for texts in all languages, use "www" for oldwikisource), or browsing http://wsexport.fr.nf (currently only for French Wikisource's texts).

In order to work, the tool need some configuration from your Wikisource subdomain, This page explains how to do it. Currently French, Italian, English, and German Wikisource does it.

You will find more information on The global Scriptorium. Ask here for all question.

This message was distributed to all Wikisources using the Global message delivery system. If you want to use it to send your messages, ask for permission here. () 21:15, 15 Ionawr 2012 (UTC)

[golygu] Survey invitation

First, I apologize that part of this message is in English. If you can assist by translating it for your local community, I would greatly appreciate it.

The Wikimedia Foundation would like to invite you to take part in a brief survey.

Diolch am gwblhau Arolwg Blaenoriaethau Dosbarthu Arian 2012. Gobeithia'r Sefydliad y bydd yr arolwg hwn yn amlygu pa adnoddau y mae Wicifryngwyr eisiau ac angen (efallai y bydd angen ariannu rhai o'r rhain), a beth yw'r blaenoriaethau. Ni fydd holl raglenni'r Sefydliad fan hyn (yn benodol hepgorwyd gweithrediadau craidd) - dim ond adnoddau y bydd cyfrannwyr unigol neu sefydliadau sy'n gysylltiedig â Wicifryngau megis penodau yn gofyn amdanynt. Y nod yn y fan hon yw adnabod beth sydd o ddiddordeb i CHI (neu grŵpiau, megis penodau neu glybiau), gan restru'r opsiynau yn ôl dewis. Nid ydym wedi cynnwys pethau fel "cadw'r gweinyddion i weithio" yn y rhestr hon, oherwydd cyfrifoldeb cyfranwyr unigol neu sefydliadau gwirfoddol ydynt. Bwriad yr arolwg hwn yw dweud wrthym pa flaenoriaethau ariannu mae cyfranwyr yn cytuno neu'n anghytuno â hwy.

Unfortunately we’ve discovered that the people who make the survey software have not yet enabled it for Welsh. They plan to add this soon, but not in time for you to take this particular survey in your native language.

However, the Welsh version of the questions has been made available by volunteers. I do apologize greatly for the inconvenience, but if you would like, you can fill in the form in English on the survey website and read the Welsh questions on the Meta website.

This invitation is being sent only to those projects where the survey has been translated into your language (even though we can’t get Welsh into the actual software). It is, however, open to any contributor from any project. Please feel free to share the link with other Wikimedians and to invite their participation. The survey is open until Friday, March 9th. If you have any questions for me, please address them to my talk page, since I won’t be able to keep an eye at every point where I place the notice. Again, I apologize for the lack of capacity of the software to accommodate Welsh. They assure us that this will be fixed. Thank you! --Mdennis (WMF) (sgwrs) 18:51, 7 Mawrth 2012 (UTC)

I apologize that this is in English, but a Welsh translation of the survey is available now. Thanks! Slaporte (WMF) (sgwrs) 21:45, 7 Mawrth 2012 (UTC)
