"LIFE AND LABOURS OF THE LATE REV. DR. PRICE, ABERDARE."

ADJUDICATION ON THE ESSAY.

Prize given by Miss Emily Price, £26 5s. and a gold medal. Adjudicators, John Evans, Esq., Brecon; Rev. Dr. J. R. Morgan (Lleurwg), Llanelly; and Prof. W. Edwards, Pontypool.

Only one composition had been sent in. In giving the adjudication, Mr. John Evans, Brecon, said that the author had evinced great care and diligence, and he had evidently spared no effort to produce a complete Biography, and in their opinion he had been very successful. The early history, as well as the later life of the subject, had been delineated with much skill and fulness, and after a careful perusal of the huge manuscript, they adjudged the essay quite worthy of the valuable prize. There were however certain blemishes that should be removed before publication, and there were certain errors and misstatements that should be corrected. There were some paragraphs which should be modified, and in parts there was a fulsomeness that should be boiled down to a correct literary point of historic accuracy. Those blemishes the adjudicators were prepared to point out. On the whole, the essay was an admirable biography, and although it was the only composition sent in, yet, in all probability, it would take a prize among many."
