THE aim of the present Work is to supply pleasant and profitable entertainment for leisure hours, whether during the bright sunny days of summer,
or the dark stormy evenings of winter. In carrying out this aim, the Editor
proposes to lay before his readers selections from a great variety of sources, which,
combined, will present the most copious and attractive representation of the works
of native writers in poetry and prose hitherto published, and form indeed a Welsh
anthology of the most varied and charming description.
The most distinctive and national feature of Welsh literature being its poetry, a very full and ample selection will be given from the works of the principal bards, such as—
