Principality. The English Baptist Union felt his power, and in wide America he was well-known. He was about the worthiest representa- tive of Wales and Welshmen we ever had.""—O'r Freeman am Mawrth 16, 1888.
GAN DR. TODD.
"No one who knew our departed friend could fail to discover in him pecularities that pointed in the direction of peril, and he was not unconscious of their existence and force. Against their sway there is every reason to believe he set up the energy of a divinely renewed will, and 'warred a good warfare. Had he not done so, they must have 'swept him away as with a flood.' Intermingled with them, however, and contravening them were noble attributes, for lack of which many a lauded character is poor; and amongst them were prominent his unselfish interest in the welfare of others, his generous readiness to render help when needed and not deserved, his detestation of all that he deemed unjust or unfair, and his unaffected joy in the success of righteousness and truth. A man of larger and warmer sympathies I have never known. To me it will ever be a grateful reflection to look back upon the distant days we spent together-to think of the bright promise then given and since grandly redeemed-to trace his public life, which was simply the outcome of our early anticipations-to think of his untiring toil for the benefit of man and the glory of God-to realize the position which he won and the power that he wielded in England and Wales and on the Western shores of the Atlantic, and in my poor way to sing,
Servant of God, well done;
Rest from thy loved employ:
The battle's fought, the victory won,
Share now thy Master's joy.
